Starting out with an avatar blessed with dreadful stats you must take training advice from the comical John McEnroe, completing a series of set tasks in a set amount of time in an effort to boost your stats (Career and Pro XP). The ultimate goal over the course of the 10 year epic career is to become number one and become the best tennis player in the world, it’s not going to be easy though. There is an awful lot of tennis to be played here and the sense of both character and career progression will suck you in, much like is the case every year for Tiger fans.

Each Grand Slam tournament brings with it multiple opportunities to horde career points including full length pre-tournaments and grudge matches with specific challenges on top of the full fixture list of a Grand Slam tournament. Hitting two back hand passes for example might double your points tally for an entire match so it is worth paying close attention before beginning a match. Choosing from a varied selection of player styles and tailoring the look of your player using the excellent player creation system ( EA Gameface available) you set out on a path to glory, wealth and hoes (sorry Tiger). The career mode sees you amassing career points for every match won and there are additional points available for in game challenges. Borrowing ideas liberally from the aforementioned franchises you begin your path to world domination as a budding tennis player who can’t hit a back hand for toffee. The main selling point for the game however is the introduction of a new ten year career mode. The wealth of game options on offer is testament to this. All of the main grand slam tournaments are available for you to participate in as well as the standard exhibition matches, historic classic Grand Slam match ups and an excellent selection of online modes. It’s clear from just the menu alone that EA have made a conscious decision here to add tennis to their well established stable of stellar sports titles. If you have ever played a Tiger Woods or FIFA title you will be right at home with the presentation, UI navigation (literally taken from FIFA) and overall depth of content. EA take that overall ethos of quality and apply it in spades to Grand Slam Tennis 2. Despair not though tennis lovers as the team at EA went back to the drawing board and created a new title specifically for the 360 and PS3, borrowing along the way from their other colossal sports franchises like Tiger Woods and FIFA to create a very comprehensive tennis title which includes just about everything you have come to expect from an EA Sports title. To be fair to EA they really don’t do anything by halves especially when it comes to their well established sports franchises, pumping out quality titles year upon year with often subtle yet brilliant improvements each time.

Both 360 & PS3 versions were planned for later that year but somewhere along the way that all changed and the title was delayed indefinitely. Truth be told it was a tad gimmicky as it was designed specifically to take advantage of the new control method.
